Bringing Scotland, Germany and Europe Together – One Dram at a Time
Some whisky tastings are enjoyable. Others become unforgettable experiences. Our hybrid Glengoyne tasting at the DriveLock office in Munich was certainly one of those special evenings.
Expertly hosted by Max from VAME, the event brought together more than 30 whisky enthusiasts, making it one of the largest hybrid Taste Buddys tastings so far.
While many guests joined us in Munich, whisky lovers connected remotely from Germany and several European countries, including the Benelux region. The biggest highlight, however, was welcoming Glengoyne’s Brand Ambassador live from Scotland, giving everyone the rare opportunity to experience the distillery directly from its home.
This international atmosphere perfectly demonstrated what whisky is all about: bringing passionate people together regardless of borders or distance.
Glengoyne – Where Time Matters
Founded in 1833, Glengoyne has earned its reputation through patience rather than speed. The distillery is famous for operating the slowest stills in Scotland, producing exceptionally elegant and fruity spirit.
Combined with premium European and American oak sherry casks, the result is a wonderfully rich, balanced and complex Highland Single Malt.
A unique geographical feature makes Glengoyne even more special: the spirit is distilled in the Highlands, while the warehouses are located just across the road in the Lowlands.
One of the greatest advantages of a single-distillery tasting is the opportunity to fully understand one producer’s DNA. Instead of comparing different distilleries, participants experience how maturation time, cask selection and ageing influence whiskies that all originate from the same house. This provides a much deeper appreciation of the craftsmanship and philosophy behind the brand.
The Tasting Experience
The line-up showcased an outstanding cross-section of Glengoyne’s portfolio, including the 15 Year Old, 21 Year Old, exclusive Single Casks, special bottlings and the remarkable Teapot Dram Batch 12.
Even the bottles themselves reflected the diversity of maturation, ranging from bright golden colours to deep amber and rich mahogany.
Tasting Highlights
Glengoyne 15 Years
Fresh apples, honey, vanilla and gentle oak spice with a creamy texture and elegant finish.
Glengoyne 21 Years
Rich dried fruits, orange peel, dark chocolate and warming spices deliver remarkable depth and complexity.
Exclusive Single Casks
Every bottling displayed its own personality with layers of raisins, walnuts, leather, tobacco, dark fruits and rich sherry influence.
⭐ Whisky of the Evening – Teapot Dram Batch 12 (59.4% ABV)
Without any doubt, the Teapot DramBatch 12 became the highlight of the evening.
Its deep mahogany colour immediately promised something special. On the nose it revealed dark cherries, figs, raisins, espresso, leather and polished oak. Despite its impressive 59.4% ABV, it remained remarkably smooth and beautifully balanced. Just a few drops of water unlocked even more layers of chocolate, dried fruits and Christmas spices.
A magnificent cask-strength whisky that perfectly demonstrated Glengoyne’s craftsmanship.
